How Much Does It Cost to Ship from Lebanon to the Gulf?

Shipping costs from Lebanon to the Gulf depend on the mode of transport (air, sea, or land), the weight and volume of your cargo, the specific destination country, and the services included such as customs clearance and door delivery. There is no single fixed rate, an accurate freight quote requires your actual cargo details. GHO Express has been pricing and moving shipments on the Lebanon-Gulf corridor since 1971, and this guide explains every factor that shapes your final landed cost.

What Determines Freight Cost on the Lebanon-Gulf Corridor?

Shipping cost is not a single number you can look up in a table. It is the sum of several variable components, each of which depends on your specific cargo and shipment requirements. Understanding these components lets you make smarter decisions, and ask better questions when you request a quote.

1. Mode of transport

The choice between air, sea, and land freight is the single biggest driver of cost.

Air freight is the fastest and most expensive per kilogram. It suits urgent, high-value or perishable goods. Flights from Beirut’s Rafic Hariri International Airport reach Dubai, Riyadh, Doha and Abu Dhabi in a matter of hours, with transit times of 1-3 business days door to door. See our air freight service(https://www.ghoex.com/services/air-freight) for full details.

Sea freight is the most cost-efficient option for large or heavy shipments. Full container loads (FCL, 20 ft or 40 ft) and less-than-container loads (LCL groupage) sail from Beirut Port to Jebel Ali (Dubai), King Abdulaziz Port (Dammam), Hamad Port (Doha) and other Gulf terminals. Transit times run 3-7 days. See sea freight(https://www.ghoex.com/services/sea-freight).

Land freight via road transport through Syria, Jordan or Iraq can be competitive for mid-size cargoes bound for Saudi Arabia, Kuwait or other overland-accessible Gulf markets, subject to routing availability and border conditions. See land freight(https://www.ghoex.com/services/land-freight).

2. Chargeable weight and volume

Airlines and ocean carriers price on chargeable weight , the higher of actual gross weight or volumetric (dimensional) weight.

For air freight: volumetric weight = (length × width × height in cm) ÷ 6,000.

For LCL sea freight: ocean carriers use CBM (cubic metres), pricing by weight or measurement, whichever yields a higher charge.

For FCL: you pay a flat rate for the container regardless of how much you fill it, so a full container is significantly cheaper per unit than a half-empty one.

Dense, compact cargo ships economically. Light, bulky cargo can be more expensive than its weight suggests. Proper packing and palletising can meaningfully reduce your freight cost.

3. Origin and destination specifics

Not all Gulf lanes are priced the same. The UAE (Dubai, Abu Dhabi) attracts the most competition and generally offers tighter rates. Saudi Arabia’s major ports, Jebel Ali, King Abdulaziz (Dammam) and Jeddah Islamic Port, are also well-served. Smaller Gulf ports or inland destinations add local delivery costs. Lebanon’s port situation can also affect sea-freight surcharges; our team monitors this and advises on the most efficient current routing.

4. Services included in the quote

A bare freight rate (port to port or airport to airport) looks cheaper than it is, because it excludes the following charges that you will pay somewhere:

Component Where it applies

Export customs clearance in Lebanon Origin

Origin terminal handling charge (THC) Origin

Fuel surcharge (FSC) and security surcharge All modes

Destination THC and port charges Destination

Import customs clearance and duties Destination

VAT (where applicable) Destination

Door delivery / last-mile Destination

When you compare quotes, make sure you are comparing on the same scope. A door-to-door quote from GHO Express includes all of these, giving you the true landed cost.

5. Commodity and regulatory factors

Regulated, temperature-sensitive, or hazardous goods carry additional handling fees and compliance requirements. Pharmaceutical and perishable shipments require cool-chain handling, see perishable logistics(https://www.ghoex.com/services/perishable-logistics). Project cargo, heavy machinery or oversized pieces, requires flat-rack or open-top containers and specialist handling, see project cargo(https://www.ghoex.com/services/project-cargo). These factors are priced into your quote individually.
