Guernsey Gateway Club
Guernsey Gateway Club LBG (formerly La Corbinerie Gateway Club) was founded in 1969 by parents of Adults with a Learning Disability in Guernsey.
Fundraising for a meeting place was achieved through Variety Club in which an active participant was Sir Billy Butlin and parents also ran every sort of funding activity.
The building at La Corbinerie was constructed and meetings commenced in 1969. The charity (AGC No. 076) affiliated to and was governed by Royal Mencap (UK).
Recently the charity revised its governance becoming Guernsey Gateway Club LBG and it is a Royal Mencap Gateway (Leisure Club).
Location: The clubhouse is found beside the Health and Well-Being Centre, Hospital Site, (turn at laundry for A&E, turn left at Totem by Day Patients, approach Hanois/Fougere Wards and restored Mignot House, and look right to a bungalow like structure!
Gateway’s purpose is to provide social and leisure activity for adults with a learning disability in Guernsey. There are about 45 members at any one time. Anyone with a learning disability, aged eighteen or older and living in Guernsey, may apply to attend.
